Thanks to our
Women Who Inspire us to Vote Team!
Behind the scenes - From May 18 to August 26, 2020, Herstory has posted daily messages on our Instagram account @get_herstory spotlighting women who inspire us to vote during the 100 days leading up the 100th Anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution. This was an ambitious initiative for sure. 100 days of postings, meant researching who to recognize, finding photos, crafting content, developing the templates, creating the daily graphics and defining hashtags for those 100 days, plus the logistics behind scheduling of the posts. For the final few weeks, we also posted weekly recaps of those 100 days reminding our viewers who we recognized.
First post of Women Who Inspire Us to Vote - May 18, 2020
These postings would not have happened without the dedication and hard work of our three amazing volunteers, inspirational women in their own right. They have never met in person and didn’t know each other before our first virtual meeting together on Monday May 4 (yes, only 2 weeks before the first post). They sprung into action, inspired by the message, giving their own time and energy to help Digit and I transform Jeff’s crazy idea into a successful campaign. We increased our Instagram followers by well over 7000%. OK, it was really low when we started.
Once nameless and faceless behind-the-scenes helpers, we want to thank Hadyn Braun, Michelle Davis and Sophie Segreti for their efforts. They all contributed to the list of women we recognized. They flipped through hundreds of web pages for info on birth/death dates, photo images, key facts and quotes. Haydn, Michelle and Sophie each supported different aspects during early parts of the campaign. Michelle created the graphic template (our first post), while Sophie researched the social media elements and Haydn started gathering images for the first few women. We all agreed on the the template and the path moving forward, then Haydn took the graphic template and created graphics for many of the first 60+ women on the list, while Sophie generated and scheduled most of the posts with Michelle assisting a few times. They flipped roles around a little later when their work schedules needed more of their attention. A few times when one of them needed a helping hand, someone else would step in late at night to pull it together for the next daily post.
We could not begin to estimate the time they spent away from their daily lives to help. All Digit and I can say is thank you! If any of you ever need a personal or professional reference, look no further than this website, and our 100+ Instagram postings, graphics and web pages to prove your value. While the women we recognize during our campaign, should inspire anyone to vote, Haydn, Michelle and Sophie, you 3 epitomize inspiration. Thanks!
